Florida Blue Partners with Amazon Pharmacy for Home Drug Delivery

Florida Blue will become the first health insurer in the state to offer Amazon Pharmacy as their exclusive home delivery service provider for its commercial insured members.

Starting January 1, 2023, more than 2 million Florida Blue members covered under individual and employer group insured products, including Truli for Health, a Florida Blue-affiliated health plan, will have access to Amazon Pharmacy’s low prices on prescription medications and convenient, no-extra-cost home delivery.

Earlier this year, Florida Blue also began making the service available to self-insured employers. Florida Blue serves more than 6 million members across the state.

Amazon, earlier this year, began consolidating its healthcare efforts under one central organization and planning for further expansion across various businesses. Amazon promoted former Prime executive Neil Lindsay to the new role of senior vice president of health and brand within Amazon’s worldwide consumer business.

Lindsay’s responsibilities include overseeing Amazon’s combined health efforts, including Amazon Pharmacy, Amazon Care and Amazon Diagnostics. The consolidated healthcare structure will help Amazon as it works to develop more customer-centric ways for patients to get the healthcare services, products and medications they need.

Amazon announced in an internal email in late August 2022 that it was shutting down Amazon Care at the end of the year. Amazon and One Medical recently entered into a definitive merger agreement under which Amazon will acquire One Medical. One Medical, which runs a chain of primary care clinics in cities around the country.

Florida Blue members will find their Amazon Pharmacy shopping experience includes transparent, real-time pricing information and allows them to compare and choose the option that works best for their needs – either their insurance copay price or the price from the Prime Therapeutics MedsYourWay® discount, which is administered by Inside Rx.

Amazon Pharmacy made the MedsYourWay prescription discount savings card available to Blue plans members in five states. Integrating the card, which is administered by InsideRx, into Amazon Pharmacy customers’ shopping experience allows them to compare their co-pay or discount price up front so they can apply eligible medication purchases to their insurance plan’s out-of-pocket maximums and deductibles. The eligible plans are Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, Florida Blue, and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas.
