ValoremRx Specialty Solutions, the group purchasing organization (GPO) formed by a joint venture between Express Scripts and Walgreens, recently announced its new collaboration with Kroger Specialty Pharmacy. Express Scripts and Walgreens Boots Alliance broadened their purchasing efforts in 2018 to include specialty brand drugs.
Partnered with Express Scripts’ specialty pharmacy Accredo® and Walgreens’ specialty pharmacy affiliates including AllianceRx Walgreens Prime, Kroger Specialty Pharmacy becomes the third participant to join the GPO.
Founded in 2000, Kroger Specialty Pharmacy, Inc. serves patients with chronic illnesses by offering drug therapies and patient-support services to treat chronic, genetic and other complex medical conditions at locations across the United States and its territories.
By joining the GPO, Kroger Specialty Pharmacy uniquely positions ValoremRx to use its combination of scale and clinical excellence to ensure sourcing and contracting solutions for specialty medications, simplifying the global supply chain and improving patient care.
Kroger’s subsidiary, Axium Pharmacy Holdings (Auxium), was acquired in 2012. Axium is one of the nation’s largest independent providers of specialty pharmacy services, offering a range of clinical services to patients with complex chronic conditions.
Axium acquired ModernHEALTH, a leading specialty pharmacy, in 2016 to create a combined specialty pharmacy that operates as a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kroger.
ModernHEALTH provides comprehensive specialty pharmacy services including IVIG for patients who require IV-based therapies for autoimmune and primary immune deficiency diseases, and comprehensive medication management for HIV, Cystic Fibrosis, Transplant, Hepatitis C, Rheumatoid Arthritis and Dermatology.
