Independent specialty pharmacies continue to have a prominent place in the market. More than 500 independent specialty pharmacies make up over 40% of AMI’s Specialty Pharmacy Database (SPD) of 1,200 pharmacies.
Specialty pharmacy accreditation, which is optional, indicates to the market that the pharmacy is proficient and plays a major role in accessing payer contracts and the increasing number of limited distribution drugs.
The organizations offering specialty pharmacy accreditation include:
- Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC)
- Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC)
- The Joint Commission (TJC)
As of June 2020, we have identified the following accreditation status for the independent specialty pharmacies in our database:
ACHC | URAC | ACHC & URAC | TJC | NONE |
130 | 90 | 110 | 20 | 155 |
