Specialty Pharmacy Insights – Independents’ Accreditation Status

Independent specialty pharmacies continue to have a prominent place in the market. More than 500 independent specialty pharmacies make up over 40% of AMI’s Specialty Pharmacy Database (SPD) of 1,200 pharmacies.
 
Specialty pharmacy accreditation, which is optional, indicates to the market that the pharmacy is proficient and plays a major role in accessing payer contracts and the increasing number of limited distribution drugs.
 
The organizations offering specialty pharmacy accreditation include:

• Utilization Review Accreditation Commission (URAC)
• Accreditation Commission for Health Care (ACHC)
• The Joint Commission (TJC)
