UnitedHealth Group Building Pharmacy Business Through OptumRx

UnitedHealth Group is following the strategy seen earlier this year by both Aetna and Cigna in their combinations with CVS Health and Express Scripts. Both CVS and Express Scripts are leaders in the pharmacy and pharmacy benefit markets and will provide Aetna and Cigna an expanded presence and maybe some insurance from Amazon in the pharmacy market.

Avella Specialty Pharmacy is a national specialty pharmacy dedicated to empowering patients, providers and other organizations across the entire healthcare continuum. Privately-held Avella, based in Phoenix, had revenue of $1.35 billion in 2017.
