Centers of Excellence (CoE) have been developed to broaden the scope of key competencies throughout an organization, regardless of geographical location or business segment. A CoE is a business unit with specific expertise that works to streamline access to high-demand capabilities for accelerated implementation across the business. This group increases expertise and standardizes best practices in a specific subject area.
CoEs exist in a range of versions within many industries and companies. Specialty pharmacy CoEs are most often developed for therapies and disease states to create value in specific areas of clinical expertise. URAC has recognized that rare diseases are the condition that specialty pharmacy has been most active in the design of CoEs. URAC launched its Rare Disease Pharmacy Center of Excellence Designation in February 2020.
This designation demonstrates to patients, manufacturers and providers the recipient’s continued commitment to attain and maintain the highest level of professional standards.
