Mail Service Pharmacy Report

Entering 2020, the increasing age and health of the population and the trend of consumers becoming increasingly comfortable shopping from home have been among the main drivers of mail service prescription growth.

This year has seen another main driver emerge, as patients have been using drug delivery services to receive their prescription drugs during coronavirus lockdowns. Many expect this trend to continue after the pandemic.

Many pharmacies are increasing their focus on mail and delivery services for prescriptions as pharmacies have needed to scale back on in-person services and social distancing recommendations limit the ability to pick up prescriptions safely. 

A number of PBMs are using the shelter-in-place policies from many state and local governments as an opportunity to migrate members with medications for chronic conditions to mail-order pharmacies to 90-day mail order pharmacy.
