Amazon is Increasing its Focus on Pharmacy Growth

 

Amazon Pharmacy is a full-service pharmacy in the Amazon.com store. Customers can use Amazon Pharmacy to purchase medications prescribed by their doctor and have them conveniently delivered to their door.

Prime members enjoy free, two-day delivery and many ways to save, including the Prime prescription savings benefit and RxPass, which offers access to unlimited eligible prescription medications for only $5 per month. All Amazon Pharmacy customers have 24/7 access to a pharmacist to discuss questions about their medications.

Amazon recently opened a new pharmacy in the greater Los Angeles area that will provide free, same-day medication deliveries. The pharmacy, located next to a same-day Amazon fulfillment center in Corona, CA, stocks more than 1,000 medications, the Press-Telegram reported.

Amazon Pharmacy’s expansion increased the number of pharmacies to 12 nationwide, located in eight states, including New York, Indiana, Texas, and Florida.

Amazon Pharmacy carries a large range of medications for common uses such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, depression, anxiety, birth control, and more. It’s also easy to identify generic versus name-brand items.

Amazon has increased its product focus to include the new class of weight loss drugs as Eli Lilly recently selected Amazon Pharmacy as a third-party delivery option for its direct-to-consumer service LillyDirect.

Amazon, is also piloting a program to provide pharmacy consultations to its newly-acquired One Medical primary care providers with a specific focus on high-risk and complex patients among the older senior population.

Amazon Pharmacy is using generative artificial intelligence (generative AI) to fill prescriptions more quickly and accurately, make customer service faster and more helpful, and ensure the right quantities of medications are stocked for customers.

Amazon Pharmacy is also working on AI applications that provide more transparent pricing on prescription medications, enabling customers to shop for the best price. In the past year, Amazon Pharmacy has doubled the number of customers it serves, and AI is helping the team to efficiently scale.
