Amazon Pharmacy Leveraging Prime Therapeutics’ Blues Plans Relationship

Amazon Pharmacy is partnering with Blue Plans in five states and Prime Therapeutics (Prime) to address the affordability of prescription medications. Amazon Pharmacy is launching a prescription savings card that will initially be available to Blue Plans’ members in five states.

Prime introduced, in October 2021, its new MedsYourWay™ offering, designed to deliver breakthrough consumer shopping experiences for members of participating Blue Plans. The first offering through MedsYourWay includes a new home delivery option using Amazon Pharmacy.

Prime serves nearly 33 million people. It is collectively owned by 19 Blue Cross and Blue Shield Plans, subsidiaries or affiliates of those plans.

Blue Plans members (Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, Florida Blue and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas) will now have an additional home delivery option that they can choose to offer their members and clients.

This new home delivery option with Amazon Pharmacy includes notable customer benefits, including simplified sign-up, real-time medication price displays and an integrated MedsYourWay prescription discount card administered by Inside Rx, a subsidiary of Evernorth. Covered purchases with the MedsYourWay prescription discount card accrue toward a member’s out of pocket maximums and deductibles.

Prescription discount cards or savings programs can be difficult for customers with insurance to find, and, as a result, they typically serve as an alternative to health insurance rather than a complementary option. This means money spent on medications may not count toward annual out-of-pocket costs or the deductible.

Over the coming months, additional breakthrough consumer shopping experiences will be launched by Prime Therapeutics under the MedsYourWay offering. Prime Therapeutics is the first PBM to announce this innovative home delivery option in the marketplace.

Evernorth’s Inside Rx is a prescription medication savings program that offers eligible customers discounts on many brand and generic medications for self-paying customers. This program is not insurance but offers savings at more than 60,000 participating retail pharmacies (including all major chains) in the United States and Puerto Rico.
