Express Scripts New Solution Integrates Prescription Discount Card Pricing with Benefits

Continuation in rising costs of specialty drugs and maybe accelerate in next 1-2 years: Randy Vogenberg

Express Scripts has launched a new solution that aims to integrate prescription discount card pricing into members’ existing benefits. Through the new Right Price offering, a member who is eligible for savings through a discount card will automatically see those savings applied at the pharmacy counter.

Due to the increasing price and use of prescription drugs, consumers are searching for ways to save money. One choice for consumers to save money is a prescription drug discount card.

Prescription discount cards are designed to provide lower drug costs to patients paying for their medications in cash. There is no cost to use these cards, and they are available to consumers whether they have health insurance or not.

Consumers with employer, federal, or no insurance can all use drug discount cards. Those consumers with insurance with the use of a drug discount card will pay out of pocket and not affect their insurance deductible.

Inside Rx provides, powered by Express Scripts, offers discounts on thousands of brand and generic medications. Inside Rx works collaboratively across the pharmacy supply chain, with all parties sharing a singular focus: to ensure patients have affordable access to medication they need.

Express Scripts first-to-market innovative copay solutions helps patients afford their medications, protect plan design preferences and achieve lower trend. In partnership with SaveOnSP on the first non-essential health benefits copay assistance solution, it has driven significant savings by targeting high-cost, high-volume drugs.

In addition, Express Scripts has enhanced its existing partnership with Amazon. Members can access another option for home delivery, and discount cards offered through Amazon will be available through Express Scripts’ Inside Rx savings program.

For clients who choose this option, members can log into Amazon Pharmacy’s website and see the price for drugs under their benefit, Amazon’s retail prices and its prescription discount card for that product.

Takeaway: Express Scripts new coupon card solution integrates discounts into the benefit offering for members who have not yet met the deductible may lead to a lower price than their drug benefits
