Hospice Pharmacy Leaders Strengthen Geographic Market Position

PharMerica recently acquired OnePoint Patient Care (OPPC). OPPC provides medications and pharmacy benefits management services to more than 350 hospices nationwide.

OPPC operates out of 15 locations nationwide. The company offers same-day local dispensing and delivery through owned pharmacies in all 50 states, serving as many as 32,000 patients daily.

PharMerica is a leading provider of institutional, community- and home-based pharmacy services. The company serves the long-term care, senior living, hospital, home infusion, hospice, behavioral, specialty and oncology pharmacy markets. PharMerica operates over 140 long-term care, home infusion, and specialty pharmacies in 46 states.

OPPC announced plans in 2019 to open five new hospice-dedicated pharmacies over the next two years, continuing the unparalleled national expansion of its local pharmacy model. OnePoint’s local presence and local service capabilities uniquely position it to serve hospices throughout the country.

DeliverCareRx also continues to expand its footprint with a new facility in Tempe, Ariz. Set to open in Jan. 2021, the location will make home deliveries and provide hospice pharmacy services throughout the state and in the Southwestern United States.

The new Arizona facility is part of DeliverCareRx’s growth strategy to expand its reach, complementing its existing service regions in Tampa, Fla., and the Chicago metropolitan region. The company expanded its footprint along the West Coast and the Northeastern region earlier this year with locations in southern New Jersey and Livermore, Calif.

Takeaway: Hospice pharmacy is primarily a local business serving a modest geographic footprint requiring national providers to continue expanding their geographic reach
