Recent Agreement with HealthTrust Strengthens CHC Supply Trust

Community Hospital Corporation (CHC) is a nonprofit organization that owns, manages, consults with and/or advises more than 100 acute care and post-acute hospitals and healthcare facilities through three distinct organizations – CHC Hospitals, CHC Consulting and CHC ContinueCARE, which share a common purpose to guide, support and enhance the mission of community hospitals and healthcare providers.

CHC made significant progress in 2019 advancing the company’s strategic imperatives, safety and quality, operational excellence, connected care and competitive position; and, making progress toward the completion of its divestiture program.

Today, over 80% of CHC’s hospitals are in markets with population of 50,000 or more people. CHC is shifting more of its focus and resources to these stronger health care systems and markets.

CHC’s ACOs have allowed the hospital to better align with independent and employed physicians around quality and innovation and care delivery. In 2019, CHC added about 20,000 Medicare Fee-for-Service lines and more than 150 new independent physicians.

The Community Health Network In-Patient Transfer Center was created to improve the patient and referring provider experience when connecting to care across its multi-facility hospital system. The center is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for a patient’s transfer needs.

During 2019, CHC expanded its transfer center service into 17 additional hospitals with the program now supporting 63 CHS hospitals in 25 markets. By the end of 2020, CHC expects to complete its planned rollout with the transfer center serving approximately 75% of CHS hospitals. CHC now has 80 urgent care and walk-in clinics with approximately 1,200 employed primary care providers and 400 primary care locations.

CHC Supply Trust, the supply chain services arm of Community Hospital Corporation and CHC Consulting, offers a full spectrum of supply chain solutions tailor-made for community hospitals, including Tier 1 GPO pricing, regardless of hospital size or annual spend.

HealthTrust and CHC recently completed a long-term partnership agreement to strengthen the operating performance of community-based hospitals. The contract renewal with HealthTrust preserves the support structure and resources these community hospitals and non-acute providers have come to depend on to manage the escalating costs of healthcare delivery.

Takeaway: CHC Supply Trust states that its members typically save between 10 and 20 percent annually over rates charged by other GPOs.
