Genesis Health System (GHS) is one of the latest health systems expanding its senior care services. GHS is a four-hospital integrated health system located in the Quad Cities area.
GHS owned hospitals are: 502-bed Genesis Medical Center-Davenport tertiary flagship (which operates on two campuses in Davenport); 145-bed GMC-Silvis in Silvis, IL; 13-bed GMC-DeWitt in DeWitt, IA (a critical access hospital); and 22-bed GMC-Aledo (a critical access hospital that joined the GHS system in 2013).
GHS also has a management agreement with Jackson County Regional Health Center under which the System provides management consultation and other services to the hospital.
Other system affiliates include integrated physicians, foundations, Illini Restorative Care, Genesis Senior Living-Aledo, GenVentures (which includes medical office buildings and retail pharmacy), the Genesis Visiting Nurse Association, the Genesis Accountable Care Organization, and various joint ventures.
WesleyLife of Johnston, Iowa, and GHS are collaborating to create a new entity that will serve older adults in the Quad Cities of eastern Iowa and western Illinois. The relationship will create an opportunity for the joined organizations to serve senior markets in both states through a comprehensive health and wellness network.
WesleyLife has served the older-adult market in Iowa for more than 72 years, owning and operating eight communities for people 55 and older and serving thousands of additional older adults through a robust network of home- and community-based offerings. The organization provides home health care and services, adult day services, nutrition, transportation, hospice care, and public health nursing services to individuals who wish to remain independent at home.
Leaders from WesleyLife and Genesis Health System will work together over the coming months to define goals and logistics around joining the companies, with more information to be shared later this year.
Genesis Senior Living Aledo will remain under the direction of Genesis Health System, and is not part of the new company being formed. Genesis continues to examine opportunities to sustain these important services for the Aledo, Illinois, community.
